EuclideanSpace is a little site where I post internet rabbit holes I went down, projects I’m working on, and pretty much everything under the sun. Who needs social media when you have a website?

Why

No Algorithms

I don’t think algorithmic social media feeds are a net good to anyone. There’s a reason those apps are free. That will probably be a topic for a future article.

If you want to stay in the loop, you can choose to subscribe to my site’s rss feed.

No Ads

If you like what I do, I’ll provide an option to buy me a coffee here at a later date. I don’t believe that modern online advertising has any benefits to the consumer that outweighs the privacy invasions, annoyances, and push into consumerism. If I need a product recommendation, I’ll ask real humans with real expirence.

I recommend Brave Browser if you have an iPhone - their inbuilt ad blocking is excellent, at the browser level. If you’re on Android, consider Firefox with the uBlock Origin extension.

On desktop, both Brave and Firefox are excellent, and I’ve used both in the past. I personally am using Brave right now, since the iPhone app blocks ads and syncs to Brave on my Mac.

No AI Slop (unless otherwise noted)

“AI” (really, generative models) is catching on… with shareholders. At least at the time of writing, though, AI has not idea what it’s doing.

While I do (and am required) to use AI in some occasions — believe it or not, my college classes sometimes have entire assignments that involve pairing up with a LLM — I don’t think AI should replace good old-fashioned thinking.

One quote from Luke on The WAN Show put it best:

At the end of the day, you need to be able to say, ‘This is my work, and I take ownership of it.’ That means if it was written by AI, you are now responsible for it, just as if you had written it by hand.

(This is a paraphrase, I’ve gone and lost the episode it’s in.)

So, for this site, there may be cases when AI is used. AI will not be used to generate articles. Any use of AI will be clearly noted at the top of the post, and inline when appropriate.

On occasion, I find some cool stuff other people did, and I want to share it, and my thoughts on it.

Proof of Life

Especially among my always-connected peers, I can exist in a mysterious void known as “I don’t have social media”. Maybe I’ll set up a bot one day to post whenever a new post goes live. Maybe not.

Memento Mori

While I maintain a personal collection of archived documents that, upon my death, I intend to be released to my family and close friends, this website also can serve as a time capsule of sorts. I think it’s fascinating to look into the generations before me, and learning about their lives, and I hope to extend the possibilty to someone in the future after I’m gone. It’s amazing how much the world can change in one’s lifetime.

(If this site still works by 2100, I’ll be impressed.)
